So you want to know how to download video to PSP? well read on. For those of you who thought you could only play games, there is so much more. You can download movie trailers, music videos, and purchase or rip full length video content to your PSP.  The entertainment world opens and you are in control.  For our purposes right now we will be talking about how to download video to PSP.

Content for your PSP is a cinch to collect, either ready to download or easily converted.  Free video content can be found on several websites.  Sony's website, psp.connect.com, discussion forums and other recources will allow you to download videos.  You can even rip video content and place this video on your PSP.  This requires several tools.  A DVD Player, DVD ripper, PSP video converter, a memory stick and a USB cable to transfer.  Of course, you can always add content quickly as long as it is in the correct MP4 format.

If your video or movie content is not in MP4 format, you will need to convert it.  This may mean you have a full length movie to convert and watch on your PSP.  For a DVD player more than likely it is built into your computer.  To rip this video you will need a DVD ripper.  There are many DVD ripping software packages out.  One of my favorite ripping packages is Magic DVD Ripper.  It has an easy interface and will rip directly into the MP4 content.  If you have content that is already on your computer you will need to convert it to the MP4 content for your PSP, there are many paid options that work well.

In a short amount of time you should have a correctly formatted video.  Once your video is in the MP4 file format, you are ready to download your video to your PSP. This is a simple process and you will be ready in a short amount of time.  When you connect the PSP to your computer using the USB cable, it will auto detect.  You will receive a notice from Windows XP asking you what you would like to do.  Choose the option to open the folder.  Once the folder is open, you are actually accessing the memory card you have put into your PSP.  Alternatively, you can choose Start-Programs-Accessories-Windows Explorer.  Your PSP device will have added as a connectable drive.

In order for your PSP to read the video, you will need to create two folders on your memory card.  The first folder needs to be named MP_ROOT.  Once you have created this folder open it and create a sub-folder named 100MNV01.  The last step is to copy your video content into the folder named 100MNV01 and effectively this is how to download video to PSP.  You can repeat this process as many times as necessary.

Memory cards for your PSP are available in 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB formats.  Once you have more video to download, add them in the same way.  With the portability and ability to swap out PSP memory, you can have a full library of videos to watch.  These memory sticks can also be overwritten as many times as you need.  Downloading video content to your Sony PSP handheld is easy and you are in the driver's seat.
